Types of Stock Springs Available at Metrol Motion Control

Here at Metrol Motion Control, we offer a wide range of stock springs to fit different manufacturing needs. Being a member of the Lesjöfors group has enabled us to broaden our product selection, not only adding variations to our existing offerings and, in some cases, whole new ranges.Â
Â
Our membership within the Lesjöfors group means that we’re able to guarantee stock of many wire spring products, from coil springs to pins and clips. This also provides us with the necessary tools to provide quick delivery for our spring components so that you can begin working with our products as soon as possible.
Diverse Wire Spring Options
Wire springs come in a variety of different options to fit a range of mechanical needs. Not every spring is designed to fit every need, so it’s important to understand which type of wire spring is best suited for your application to get the most out of your product. Here is a breakdown of the wire springs we offer:
Â
- Compression Springs: These are a very common type of coil spring designed to resist compressive force by shortening when faced with pressure. Compression springs can be found in several applications, such as landing gear in aircraft, train suspension systems, and within certain medical devices.
- Extension (Tension) Springs: Designed to resist pulling forces by stretching when tension is applied, extension springs are also a common component seen in different industries. These springs can be found in things like trampolines and garage doors, providing necessary tension to keep these mechanisms working smoothly.Â
- Torque (Torsion) Springs: Torsion springs store and release rotational energy, providing essential functionality in many applications. For example, they’re found in seatbelt retractors to roll the belt back into its housing, and in tools that require rotational force.
- Die Springs: These springs are particularly suited to high-load applications and are built to withstand extreme pressure and stress. They’re often found in industrial settings, such as die-casting, moulding, and stamping, and they help to absorb forces while staying durable.
- Disc (Belleville) Springs: Disc springs, also known as Belleville springs, are conical-shaped springs that provide a high level of force in a small, compact space. They’re typically used in applications that require a large amount of compression force in a limited area, where they don’t take up much space.
- Wave Springs: A compact version of traditional coil springs, wave springs are designed in a shape that provides high levels of force despite their small size. These springs are used in applications where space is limited, but a high force is required, such as in actuators, valves, and electrical connectors.
- Power Springs: Power springs are designed to store rotational energy and release it steadily over time. These springs are tightly wound to maintain a consistent torque, ensuring reliable performance in devices that need to return to their starting position after use.
- Clock Springs: These springs are a type of power spring designed specifically for watches and other timekeeping devices. These springs store energy and release it slowly over an extended period, ensuring the precise operation of hands and gears.
- Constant Force (Torque) Springs: Constant force springs provide a consistent amount of force throughout their range of motion. They are found in motor-driven devices, cable reels, and retractable systems. Their design makes them maintain the same force regardless of how much they’re extended.
Spring Washers, Rings, Pins, and Clips
At Metrol, we offer a wide selection of components designed to meet different industrial and mechanical needs. Our wire spring washers collection includes curved, finger, lock, tensioning, wave, and wedge lock washers; each engineered to provide reliable performance in various applications. We also supply attachment rings, retaining rings, and DIN 471 & DIN 472 retaining rings, all designed for secure fastening in machinery. For added security, we provide LPA and LPB locking pins (R clips), shaft locking pins (tractor pins), and safety locking pins. Our range of clips, including tool clips, shaft pin locking clips, spring clips, and spire clips, are able to hold components in place. Â
