NitroSprings
Mini & Long Stroke Nitrogen Gas Springs
What are the Benefits of NitroSprings?
Our NitroSprings can be overhauled to increase the lifespan, reduce downtime and inventory, and improve sustainability:
- Mini variations are useful for applications where you want to keep the size as small as possible.
- Long stroke variations are compact and can have a stroke ranging up to 2m, perfect for counterbalancing applications that are vertical.
- They have specialist sealing technology to prevent dust and debris from contaminating the spring- therefore aiding the longevity of the product.
Not only this, but our regular research, development, and testing provides us with confidence that your NitroSpring can continuously perform under demanding loads.
Industries
Our NitroSprings have no limit when it comes to what industries they are suited to. Every single detail can be customised to suit your application’s environment- the options are endless. Some common industries include marine, transport, steel mills, defence, and agriculture.
Product Variations
- Threaded NitroSprings: screwed into an application to prevent any movement and increase stability.
- Micro and Mini NitroSprings: an extremely small solution and a great alternative to wire springs, such as die springs, as no preload is required because they are already charged.
- High and Ultra-High Force NitroSprings: they exert extremely high forces in a compact design, useful for if you want to keep your application as small as possible but still require high forces.
- Long Stroke NitroSprings: these have high stroke lengths of up to 2000mm, this provides a long travel and has a low force increase, ideal for vertical applications.
NitroSprings vs Wire Springs
NitroSprings can provide 275% more force than a coil spring of the same size. They can also provide 120% more force than a die spring of the same size. This demonstrates the power that can be put into a mini compression spring, vs the power a wire spring of the same size would generate.
A NitroSpring is already charged so no preload is required meaning the full travel is used, whereas a wire spring would lose some of its travel due to preload.
Customisation
NitroSprings can be customised to the exact - from the force, stroke, overall length, rod diameter, charge port type, rod and body end fittings, material and finishes required, we’ve got you covered. Fill out our custom NitroSprings form today to get started.
Corrosion Resistance
Metrol’s stainless steel NitroSprings are corrosion resistant and can perform in the most challenging environments. Our standard NitroSprings can be customised to add a protective coating and therefore make them corrosion resistant – ideal for the marine, subsea, and offshore industries.

FAQs:
Can I adjust the force on a NitroSpring?
All our NitroSprings can be recharged and degassed in the field, or within a pipe system, using our charging or degassing equipment. Our ultra-high force and long stroke compression springs are supplied at full pressure. Our mini compression springs are designed to replace die springs which require set forces, meaning you can select from specific forces.
How do I choose the right NitroSpring for my application?
You would first determine what outer diameter you require. After this, you can select the correct category and begin working your way through the filters bar on the left. The filters are listed in order of importance; however, some features may need prioritising first depending on specific applications. If you cannot find your ideal specifications, contact us today for a custom solution.
